WHAT IS A TRI BIKE?

Triathlon bikes, or tri bikes, are designed for the unique demands of triathlons. They come in various shapes and sizes to suit different distances and courses. Unlike standard bikes, tri bikes aren't bound by the same strict design regulations as those set by the UCI, allowing for more aerodynamic efficiency.

TT Bikes: The most common type of triathlon bike is the Time Trial (TT) bike. It lets the rider assume a tucked, aerodynamic position that reduces air resistance. Since about 75% of drag comes from the rider, this position is crucial for speed. TT bikes look similar to regular time-trial bikes, but they have specific aerodynamic modifications to improve airflow around the bike and rider.

Key Differences to a Road Bike:

• Tube Profiles: Tri bikes have specially shaped tubes that reduce drag by altering how air flows over them.

• Fuel and Storage Boxes: These bikes often include storage boxes for energy food and tools. Besides their practical use, these boxes also act as aerodynamic fairings to further reduce drag.
